If you have come across this article the first thing you might be thinking is that you are loosing your marbles – ‘I’m sure I left my trowel here…?’ Well, you might be glad to know that it is possible a squirrel moved your light gardening tools. We will explore if this is possible in this article.

How much can a squirrel lift?

Squirrels are stronger than they look, spending a life climbing and jumping from tree to tree means these critters are ripped – imagine if you spent all day climbing trees! Whilst how much a squirrel can bench press is currently speculative, you can bet your nuts on it that they can move a light gardening tool such as a trowel, pair of snips or gloves. Why they would do this is also currently speculative, however there is growing evidence that squirrels are moving into the garden maintenance sector and maybe stockpiling for this reason.

Are squirrels strong?

Yes, squirrels are strong (for their size), so think twice before engaging in battle with this formidable foe. One swing and you’ll be seeing stars!

What does it mean if a squirrel stares at you?

If you find yourself in this situation in the wild, there are a few steps you can do to ensure your safety. Squirrels are quick so there’s no point trying to out run it, they are also very clever. Of course the chances are that the squirrel is actually just scared and is thinking of it’s next move to evade the huge creature in front of it (you).

What do squirrels hate the most?

Squirrels have a very good sense of smell, therefore the best way to deter a squirrel is through a smell it doesn’t approve of. Some smells that will put a squirrel off are:

  • Pepper (White or Black)
  • Chili powder
  • White vinegar (Homemade spray is very effective)
  • Peppermint (essential oil)
  • Coffee grounds
  • Cinnamon
  • Predator’s urine
  • Garlic
  • Irish spring soap
  • Rosemary
