The Best Cordless Lawnmower (2024)

Best Cordless lawn mower

This article will examine the best cordless lawnmowers of 2024. New technology means battery-powered tools like lawnmowers are now competitive with their petrol counterparts.

As a Gardener, I need tools that offer the best performance and reliability. After using some of my clients’ cordless lawnmowers last year, I decided to buy one myself. I have been very impressed with the power, lightness, and finish of the lawns.

I have based this article on my experience with battery-powered or cordless lawnmowers.

Are Cordless Lawn Mowers any good?

I am a Gardener by trade, and a lawn mower is one of the most essential tools for the job. Therefore, I need a lawn mower that is:

  • Reliable
  • Light and easy to transport
  • Cheap to run
  • It has enough power to cut through some thick grass.

Petrol lawnmowers are heavy, less cheap to run than they used to be, and bad for the environment.

Electric lawnmowers rely on a power cord, which is not ideal for transport as it is awkward, and extended power leads can get quite heavy when coiled up.

Battery-powered lawnmowers lacked power until recently. Battery technology has come a long way, and cordless lawn mowers can offer a good solution. They are cheap to run, very light, and offer a very professional finish.

While cordless lawnmowers will not cut it in some situations (pun intended), they are more than suitable for suburban lawns.

I use a Worx cordless lawn mower daily when gardening for work. I find their products well-made and cost-effective. For more information about the Worx W779E.2 Cordless lawn mower, check out my article – Worx WG779E.2 Lawnmower review.

David R Young, 5 stars – ‘Delivered today& assembled in 25 minutes. The grass box was not a problem to assemble- one clip at a time- sharp coordinated hand blow to each side of the box at each clip & no problem. The battery was perfectly accessible and easy to insert and remove. Took it into the garden, upended the mower, adjusted height to middle slot. It mowed beautifully, the motor sound not even dropping slightly when i tried a batch of taller grass. It was so light that it manoeuvred easily, yet it was powerful for its size. Hugely recommended.’

David M, 5 stars – ‘I was looking for a replacement for my old heavy petrol mower now that we only have a small area of grass to cut and I didn’t fancy the idea of a mains powered electric mower, having to be careful with the power cable! I already had battery powered tools of this brand and thought this mower might be worth a look. I am so glad I bought it!! It is quite small, only does a 30cm cut but it does a fabulous job. Yes, I have to go up and down across the lawn a lot more due to the narrower width, but because it’s so light, you actually get the grass cut in a similar amount of time. I use a 4ah battery which is adequate for my 10m x 10m lawn. I’ve had the mower for a few months now and I’m very pleased with it!’

Flimo, 4 stars – ‘This is a great lawnmower that uses the batteries I already had for the brush cutter. That needed two and the lawnmower only needs one so I can charge whilst using the mower which is a bonus.

It was quite easy to put together, until you get to the grass box. It required a lot of patience and strength – in the end I found that clipping in one at a time and pushing really hard got me there.

It is lightweight and very manoeuvrable, which is what I wanted. As it’s relatively small the grass box fills up quite quickly. The three heights are useful, although it can be difficult to move the wheel axel up and down as the springs on it are very good. Cutting is excellent so far, the blade is sharp.

So, I’m very pleased but it loses a star as I think a small and light mower shouldn’t need lots of strength for two key elements.’

Acakegoddess, 5 Stars  – ‘I had a petrol one for years but wanted something lighter that didn’t need servicing every year. I have lots of worx tools so this is great addition to my collection. Easy to assemble (according to other half!) I found I needed 4 batteries worth for my lawns (but I have spares so had 4 ready to go) sliced though the winter overgrowth with ease and easy to clean-up and store. I’ll use it every week just to keep the grass/moss 🙄 at bay. I’m super impressed with it for a little lawnmower 👍🏽’

Marg, 5 Stars – ‘I bought this to replace my old, much used, Worx mower which I have passed on to my son.

I like battery mowers, no cord to unwind, no petrol engine to fiddle with. I like the fact that I can use the same battery for my hedge cutter and also my strimmer.

It was easy to put together and to use. The grass box gets full fairly quickly but is easy to empty. The mower cuts well and has various settings and if it lasts as long as my last one it will be very good value.’

Jordan, 5 Stars – ‘I had a 10 year old petrol mower that finally gave up the ghost, so I was apprehensive about switching to battery powered. I didn’t need to be though, this isPerfect for my needs, batteries charge very quickly in less than an hour after use. Will happily mow my front and back lawns (medium sized) on one charge with juice left over!

The only area this struggled in was the first cut of the year, with long wet grass. But with turbo mode and adjustable heights I was able to trim it down without much issue.

Very light and sturdy, great handle helps me just pick it up out of my shed and yeet it into the garden every Saturday!

Very happy customer’

Top Amazon Reviews

Rodderz, 5 Stars – ‘Purchased after reading many reviews and having used corded lawnmowers. This is a unit it has to be said. Substantial and quite heavy.

It’s easy to assemble, gives a great cut and does the job.

I would recommend purchasing spare batteries as depending upon the length of grass and conditions, the batteries will run out. Despite this however, I would definitely recommend this mower to those wishing to take the plunge for the money. Just budget for spare batteries.’

Martin Day, 5 Stars – ‘Have two fairly large lawns, easily cuts both with no sign of running out of charge. Is lightweight, easy to use and as you would expect, quiet. Batteries charge relatively quickly. The collection box could have been a bit bigger but no complaints so far. Have only used it 4 times though to be fair.’

Chris S, 5 Stars – ‘I’m a 77 year old with arthritic “everything” and very large lawns with a slight slope, whose big name rotary motor mower is heavy and 20 years old. And I want to keep cutting my own lawns. This is a 46cm cut compared with my old mower’s 42cm cut. The Greenworks is brilliant. It’s light and nimble, and cut all three of my lawns easily on a single charge with power left in it’s two batteries. It needs a slightly different technique to turn it compared with the petrol mower because the clutch takes a moment or two to completely disengage – solved by letting go of the drive lever about two feet before the end of the lawn to give it time to allow me to pull it back a foot or two to turn it around. It drives perfectly up the slope, and the range of speed adjustment is excellent. I’d buy it again – recommended without reservation.’

Summary

The Einhell Power X-Change 18/30 model is the best cordless lawn mower for small lawns and city gardens. It is affordable and well-made.

With power-maximising technology and a roller for striped lawns, medium-sized suburban lawns and domestic gardeners can mow confidently using the Worx WG779E.

When maintaining large lawns, you will need the Greenworks Self-Propelled cordless lawn mower. It can tackle up to 480m2, which also makes it a viable model for professional Gardeners.
